Case Study: Visa’s India GCC Fuels 4.3 Billion Cards Worldwide

Published on

Visa Inc. is a global payments technology company that connects consumers, businesses, financial institutions, and governments in more than 200 countries and territories to fast, secure, and reliable electronic payments. Visa operates over 14,500 financial institutions, has issued over 4.3 billion cards, and is present across 130 million merchant locations worldwide.

The Challenge

In the face of a rapidly evolving payments landscape driven by mobile adoption and connected devices, Visa embarked on a strategic transformation to bolster its technical and digital capabilities. The company wanted to establish a Technology Center of Excellence (TCoE) in Bengaluru, India to foster collaboration with regional engineering teams across APAC, CEMEA, and America, with the aim of accelerating the development and launch of next-generation payment products and platforms.

However, the lack of on-ground recruitment infrastructure in India hampered Visa’s ability to attract top technical talent. The company struggled with lengthy hiring processes and increasing candidate dropoff rates, which ultimately translated to extremely high costs of talent acquisition.

Our Solution

Tapping into our vast network of 1.5 million tech professionals across 200+ platforms, we cultivated a talent pool that was meticulously aligned with Visa’s unique hiring requirements. Our team further refined the talent pipeline by giving additional weightage to profiles with experience in the development of fintech products. As a result, we could increase the initial screening success rate substantially and shorten overall recruitment timelines.

Our team undertook the end-to-end set up of Visa’s TCoE in Bengaluru, India, from establishing workspaces with integrated IT solutions, to ensuring legal compliance and providing onboarding and management support. We built large-scale analytical services on hybrid cloud for the enterprise to support the upgradation of all Visa products from the India center.

The TCoE started operations in mid 2015 with the objective of focusing on the development of key application programming interfaces (APIs) and software development kits (SDKs) in order to help Visa’s global partners more easily access VisaNet when creating new commerce and payment experiences.

In less than two years, the center had already scaled to a strength of 1000+ full-time employees, with plans for further expansion. The center is also building a next generation data acquisition, processing, and serving platform to enable commercial use-cases emerging from changing market dynamics and regulatory landscape.
